Now the mainstream biochemical filtration system configuration is filter cotton + bio-cotton + glass ring, I have seen a lot of bottom filter cylinders put a few dozen pounds of glass rings, biochemical filtration effect is very powerful. However, the glass ring is only a biochemical filter, and biochemical filtration solves the problem of toxins in the water, and does not improve the clarity of the water. Such a system still relies on those filter cottons to maintain the cleanliness of the water. The gap between such a system and the system I am doing is here. Imagine how the filter cottons might be compared to the 10 cm thick ceramic sand in my system. The sand filter effect of ceramic sand is that filter cotton can never be reached, so you can see that as long as the water filtered by ceramic sand is so crystal clear, the reason is this.
Of course, I am not saying that the configuration of the mainstream biochemical filtration system is not good, but the appearance quality of the water is a little different from the water using the sand filter. If a sand filter is added to such a system, the water is quite perfect. It is. Sand filtration does not necessarily require the use of ceramic sand. The filtration effect of fine river sand and quartz sand is better than that of ceramic sand, except that they are too dense and have poor water permeability, which is easy to cause overflow in the filter tank. In addition, these sandstones are not porous structures, and the ability to culture nitrifying bacteria is much worse than that of ceramic sand, so I chose ceramic sand as the sand filter layer, which can kill two birds with one stone.
Ok, let's talk about it in theory. Let's talk about the specific application of ceramic sand. Regardless of the type of filtration, what kind of filter, and the filter tank can use ceramic sand, ceramic sand can completely replace the biochemical filter material such as ceramic ring.
1. The order of the upper filter is: the bottom layer is covered with large holes of biochemical cotton, the middle is ceramic sand, and the top is filter cotton.
2. The order of the filter barrels is: the most blue-thinned large-pore biochemical cotton, and then sand. The middle blue can be used to lay the sand after the biochemical cotton, or the sand can be directly placed without the biochemical cotton. The top of the blue sand should be covered with biochemical cotton. Do not use filter cotton (white cotton) in the filter tank to reduce the blockage of the filter drum to ensure water flow and extend the filter barrel cleaning cycle.
3, the bottom filter tank is placed in the order: the bottom of the big hole biochemical cotton, the middle is ceramic sand, if it is the first grid on the sand filter cotton. If only one grid can be used to lay ceramic sand, it should be placed in front of the pump so that the sand filter effect is good.
4, the role of biochemical cotton is to block the sand, to prevent the sand leakage and help to walk. It should also be noted that ceramic sand cannot be used as a glass ring, nor can it be mixed with other filter materials, especially glass rings, because it will greatly reduce the effect of sand filtration.
Ceramic sand will generate a small amount of dust due to friction during transportation. It should be thoroughly washed before use. Generally, it can be washed 3-5 times with water. The water quality will be slightly turbid when it is used for the first time. It is normal. It can be clarified by turbidity for one or two hours. There are about 5-10% of the pieces in the ceramic sand. I have removed them, and I am afraid that blocking biochemical cotton will affect the water.
Regarding the service life of ceramic sand, I also asked Mr. Yan, who said that "his ceramic sand was invented only for four years. He has been used in the water tank for three and a half years. He has never cleaned it. The water quality has been quite it is good". According to my experience of more than one year, the water quality has been very stable. It is still unknown how long the ceramic sand needs to be cleaned and replaced. I will continue to monitor the water quality to determine the cleaning and replacement cycle. There will definitely be one after another. The report is to share with you.
