Application effect of Dixon Ring

Dixon ring is a kind of small grain efficient packing, made of metal wire mesh, the diameter of the packing is equal to the height. Specifications are mainly 2×2, 3×3, 4×4, 5×5, 6×6, 7×7, 8×8, 9×9, 10×10, 11×11, 12×12 and so on. Due to the capillary action of the wire mesh, the liquid can be well dispersed into the film, which is conducive to the full mass transfer and heat transfer of the gas-liquid two terms, and can significantly eliminate the unstable phenomenon such as groove flow.

The pressure drop of Dixon packing is related to gas - speed, liquid - spraying amount, the weight of the material system, surface tension, viscosity, the characteristics of the packing, also related to the preliquid - flood - treated packing. Dixon packing has a greater amount of lag than that of the same solid packing, the surface wetted condition is also more complete than the general porcelain ring, high film - forming rate, so the separation efficiency is also higher. The number of theoretical plates decreases with the increase of packing size and column diameter, especially for the packing of small diameter column, and the increase of column diameter makes the number of theoretical plates decrease greatly. Dixon packing is mainly used in laboratory and the separation of small - batch and high - purity products. 

(Compared with single layer, the mechanical properties and separation effect of double layer are greatly improved. Generally, double layer is used for more than 5×5mm.)
